It’s Not Fair!

IT’S NOT FAIR!

You’ve heard children and adults alike scream, “It’s not fair!”

“It’s not fair that Billy gets to go to a party and I don’t! It’s not fair that I have so much homework I have to stay home and work.”

“It’s not fair that I’m only 23, have a husband and child, and I get cancer. It’s just not fair!”

“It’s not fair my landlord bought fire insurance for everybody but me, and my business burned down.”

It’s just not fair!

The Cop Out

You’re heard the reply to that, “Who told you life is fair? Life is not fair, so get over it.” Parents say that to their children. Why? Because that’s the only think they can think of that will give them the last word.

Parents don’t know all the answers. Sometimes they’re called upon to defend themselves when they least expect it. The mother or father is caught up in doing adult things. They tell their teenage child to do this or that, expecting it to be done and allow the parent to get back to his adult things. All of a sudden the teenager yells out, “It’s not fair!” and now you have to justify what you just did or said. The simple comeback is, “Life is not fair. Now go do it.”

Life is Fair

Well, I’m here to tell you, that is just a copout; life is fair.

Time and chance happens to everybody. Good things and bad things happen to everybody. Sicknesses and health happens to everybody. What would not be fair is if nothing bad ever happened to you.

Seven percent of the people in the United States come down with some form of cancer. Are you one of them? Well that’s just too bad; people get cancer. My mother had cancer. I had cancer. And other people have cancer. Why are you so special that you should never get cancer?

Car accidents happen. It even happens to new cars. Did it happen to you? Well, I’m sorry it happened, but why should you be exempt? Why shouldn’t it happen to you as to anyone else in the world?

Life is fair. Good things and bad things happen to everybody. Some people are born rich, but they develop a rotten personality and have a bad marriage. Some people are born poor, but they learn a way to make a million dollars. Some people are in wheel chairs but learn to make a living on the computer, while other healthy people live on skid row as bums.

There is a reason that good things and bad things happen. The bad makes you better and stronger. The good gives you joy and makes life worth living. Anybody who grows up in a normal way will have both good and bad happen to them.

THEREFORE
Turn your attention away from blaming others because life is not fair. Instead, prepare for it. Know that sometimes bad things are going to happen and sometimes good things are going to happen. Avoid the bad as best you can. Keep yourself healthy. Be careful. Endure the bad. Enjoy the good. And win at life.
